Courses to play while staying in Madrid: Real Club de Golf La Herreria
While visiting Madrid you may feel like playing golf or you may want to take your clients during business trip to play a round of golf and do the business while playing. Whatever the reason is for playing golf during the stay in Madrid (honestly I find so many), It is important to know what options you may have where to play and get a very nice experience. Here I suggest some courses which will not disappoint any expectations.
Real Club de Golf La Herreria
This course is emblematic of golf in Madrid. It is located in a very privilaged area due the proximity of World Heritage The Royal Site of San Lorenzo de El Escorial so you can feel all the history and it is surrounded by the mountains of Madrid, thus it offers one of the most wonderful scenario of the area. The monastery is just at around half a mile, from the clubhouse you can have a nice view of the course and monastery. I have been member of this Club during so long and everytime I played the course I could not help taking a photo of monastery from Hole 8. All visitors are very satisfied to enjoy this fantastic course.
The course
With 6091mts (6661yards) and Par 71, this course has narrow fairways into an oak grove which makes it challenging from the tee. Long hitters may be tempted to take short cuts in some holes pursuing the reward of making under par results. Greens are very subtle and fast.
Services:
Shop: In the shop you can find a lot of products that are perfect for souvenirs. The items with the Royal Club Logo are so many and it is easy to find something that you like.
Restaurant/Bar: The restaurant has a wonderful views to the monastery and the course. If on season (when temperature are colder) you may be able to try the very famous and traditional area dish, the "cocido", a chickpea stew. Here it is very delicious. The menu is sorted and has high quality meat and fish.
What to see
If you have time you can visit the monastery. It is a compund of buildings and gardens. It was the largest construction in Europe in XVI century.
San Lorenzo de El Escorial is a typical Madrid's mountain style village. It is very nice for a short walk and try some tapas. There are famous restaurants where you can enjoy the traditional cuisine or even most innovative style in a Michelin Star restaurant.
How to get there
It is about 1 hour driving from center of Madrid. The route is almost highway and close to the destination you will enjoy the relaxing ride with nice views of the mountain side area.
